Creandum closes its eighth and largest fund at €668 million, deploying fresh pre-seed to Series A capital from the firm behind Spotify, Klarna, and Lovable.
CREANDUM FUND VIII
€668 million closed for early-stage European founders, the firm's largest since 2003
Creandum, the Stockholm-based early-stage venture capital firm, closed Fund VIII at €668 million ($750 million) on 2 November. The fund is roughly 34 percent larger than Fund VII, which closed at €500 million in June 2024, and is the firm's largest in its 23-year history. The fund is now closed to new LP commitments.
The firm plans approximately 30 new investments over the next two years, split evenly between new companies and follow-on rounds. Implied average initial cheque: approximately $12.5 million. Stage focus: pre-seed to Series A. Around 30 institutional LPs backed the fund -- European and US university endowments, pension funds, and charitable foundations.
Notable portfolio companies: Spotify, Klarna, Lovable (AI coding tool), Black Forest Labs (FLUX image generation model), and Trade Republic (neobroker). Creandum says one in six early-stage investments it has made has reached a $1 billion+ valuation.
WHY IT MATTERS
New capital at the earliest stage, deploying now
European venture fundraising reached $14.9 billion across 111 funds through September 2026. Creandum's €668 million accounts for roughly 5 percent of that total from a single early-stage firm.
The fund is split evenly between new bets and follow-on rounds, meaning Creandum can both lead new investments and double down on existing portfolio companies. For a European founder raising a pre-seed or Series A round, the practical implication is a fresh fund actively deploying, with an initial cheque that can lead a round without a co-investor.
Action: Creandum is deploying from their largest-ever fund. Their thesis centres on the earliest and most ambitious technology founders in Europe and increasingly the US. The firm has tripled its San Francisco team, with offices in Stockholm, London, and Berlin.
