The threat of climate change is pushing every sector of the economy to decarbonise its operations, but certain hard-to-abate sectors, such as heavy industry, gas utilities and shipping, cannot easily switch to renewable energy sources. Electrification is not feasible for these sectors and switching to alternative energy sources would require huge investment in new equipment, process changes, and civil infrastructure. This places many Net Zero targets at risk.
Turn2X aims to rapidly decarbonise these sectors using renewable natural gas (RNG), a green energy source that can replace fossil natural gas in hard to abate sectors and enable rapid decarbonisation without the large infrastructural changes needed for other solutions. Our patented honeycomb reactor utilises green hydrogen and biogenic CO2 to create RNG. This is chemically identical to fossil-methane and is 100% drop in ready with existing natural gas pipelines and can be used wherever fossil natural gas is used today. This means no large CAPEX investments are required on the customer side, as they can continue using their existing burners or furnaces. The superior heat removal properties of the reactor, simplifies the heat management system of the plant. This as well as the use of the standardised modular parts and the reduction of the plant size compared to competitor plants allow us to reduce the CAPEX of RNG plants by around 30%. Turn2X also boasts the fastest ramp up time which is critical when using renewable energy sources with fluctuating energy loads and enables operation at times of peak energy when costs are lower.
Overall, this leads to a lower cost for RNG, which is competitive with biomethane today and will reach price parity with fossil natural gas in the long term. In line with the RePowerEU plan, Turn2X are offering a possibility to reliably and cost-effectively produce renewable natural gas within Europe.
