Africa Renewable Energy Fund (AREF) is a renewable energy private equity fund managed by Berkeley Energy. It invests in small hydro, solar, geothermal, biomass and other clean-energy projects across Sub-Saharan Africa, excluding South Africa. The original AREF launched in 2014 with anchor commitments from the African Development Bank and the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa.
