The EIC 2027 work programme restructures every instrument: four Accelerator batches instead of six, two-stage Pathfinder, single-beneficiary Transition, and a November 19 information day to walk founders through the changes.
EIC 2027
Accelerator cuts to four annual batches; Pathfinder and Transition both restructured
The EIC Work Programme 2027 draft makes structural changes to all three main instruments.
The EIC Accelerator moves from six to four full-proposal batches per year. The six-batch cycle ends with the 2026 programme; in 2027 there are four submission windows. For a company on a GO decision, the gap between cut-offs is longer -- plan submissions earlier than in 2026.
Pathfinder Open becomes a two-stage process: a shorter Stage 1 of around ten pages, then a Stage 2 with an interview. The 2026 single-stage format ends this programme year.
EIC Transition becomes single-beneficiary only. Consortium applications will not be eligible in 2027. A Letter of Intent from a potential customer or user is required from Stage 1.
Draft total EIC budget for 2027: approximately €1.8 billion, including €400 million for the Scaleup Europe Fund managed by EQT. All figures remain provisional until the Commission formally adopts the programme.
WHY IT MATTERS
Register for the November 19 information day before 18 November at 09:30 CET
The EIC online information day is on 19 November 2026, 09:30-15:40 CET. Registration closes 18 November at 09:30 CET. The EIC and EISMEA will cover every instrument: Pathfinder, Transition, Accelerator, STEP Scale-Up, STEP Defence, and Business Acceleration Services. Free; questions can be submitted in advance via Slido.
For founders in the 2026 pipeline: four batches in 2027 rather than six means fewer cut-offs and longer gaps between them. If the November 4 EIC Accelerator submission is live, file it. If that window passes, the first 2027 batch is expected to open in early 2027.
For researchers planning Pathfinder applications: the two-stage format adds a selection step before the full proposal. Prepare a concise Stage 1 submission aligned with EIC breakthrough research priorities.
